All universities in the United States that require standardized testing from their applicants will consider either the ACT or the SAT for undergraduate admission. There are some schools that do not mandate any standardized tests for consideration of admission, but they are relatively small in number, and most are not particularly selective. The majority of college applicants must therefore decide between the ACT and the SAT, and neither test is clearly better for all students. Some experts, however, point to a few advantages associated with the ACT. First, the ACT has been offered for much longer than the latest version of the SAT, which was introduced in 2016. This means that there is much more information available with respect to the ACT and a larger set of available practice exercises, both of which can be extremely helpful to test preparation. Second, students with strong time management skills can use these abilities to great effect on the ACT, which presents the questions at a faster pace. Finally, applicants to some universities who choose the SAT must sometimes also take the SAT subject tests. At many of these schools, the ACT covers the entire standardized testing requirement. College applicants are advised to carefully consider their own testing strengths and weaknesses as well as the expectations of their preferred degree programs, and pick whichever test is the most favorable.

Meet a Prague ACT Tutor: Rosemary R.

Rosemary R. joined Manhattan Review in Prague last year, after a seven-year career teaching ACT prep in the United States. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she is a graduate of Fordham University and Ohio State University (bachelor's and master's degrees in education). She is a veteran public high school teacher with subject-matter expertise in English literature.

Rosemary has taught ACT prep to several hundred students as a classroom instructor and individual tutor, and her ACT students have been successfully admitted to many of the best universities in the United States. She is a married mother of three young children, and she enjoys spending most of her free time with her family (although she always tries to watch when her hometown Miami Marlins are in action).
