According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, the mean GMAT total score for all test-takers is about 552, which is in the 44th percentile. Approximately two-thirds of all test-takers score between 400 and 600, with middle-50% scores between 480 and 650. A total score of 700 is in the 89th percentile, while a total score of 750 is in the 98th percentile. The data also show that high quantitative scores are much more common than high verbal scores. The mean quantitative score is a little under 39, and a quantitative score of 50 is in the 87th percentile. The average verbal score, on the other hand, is about 27, and only 1% of all test-takers receive verbal section scores of 45 or higher. GMAT integrated reasoning and analytical writing are scored separately and do not count toward the total score; the averages for these two sections are 4.23 and 4.37 respectively. The most selective business schools in the United States usually expect GMAT total scores of 700 or higher. At Columbia Business School, for example, the average GMAT total score is 717, with middle-80% scores of 680-760.

I took the GMAT weekend course last year in August in Zurich (it was the weekend of those terrific floods in Switzerland...), and I remember the instructor telling us to let you know how I did. Sorry it took so long! I got a 680, which was good for 90th percentile, and it got me an 80% scholarship at the school that was my first choice. Thanks so much for the assistance. Caroline P. completed a bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Florida and a master of business administration at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, she has been living in Prague since 2014. She has seven years of experience as a teacher of on-site and online GMAT prep courses and private tutoring sessions.
